Old Meets New
Greetings from New York City.
As a part of my ‘Gary Unmarried’ media blitz, I was scheduled to appear on The CBS Morning Show, Rachael Ray, Martha Stewart and The View. I have done media tours before but never had I spent a week being interviewed solely by women. It was like I was applying for admission to an all girl school.
I was a little nervous. Would my rough edges be properly smoothed to be appealing for the day time television watchers? Would the housewives enjoy my jokes or would they turn their heads at them. Keep in mind that a media tour is designed to INCREASE television viewer ship. If I went out on these shows and acted like a jack ass then viewer ship could DECREASE and it would be all my fault.
You see, when you work on a TV show, it isn’t just actors that are employed. On your average television show there are around 200 employees. From the wardrobe department to the painters to the set designers to the schedule makers and accountants, all of these people do not have a job next year if Gary Unmarried gets canceled. That is a bit of a mind bender if you allow yourself to think about it for a while before you fall asleep at night.
Fortunately everything went fantastic. I mean it went really, really great. I am amazed at how many of you watch these shows religiously. My inbox on the website is filled with pages and pages of Rachael Ray watchers. To all of you I say THANK YOU.
I also was able to go on satellite radio with my friends Opie and Anthony and Ron and Fez. There is such an enormous difference between these two shows I could not possibly explain it all here. The biggest difference between shows would be the Opie and Anthony show and Rachael Ray, The View, Martha Stewart, etc… How long I will be able to straddle the fence between these personalities is unknown. I made my bones on the radio with those guys and I would never turn my back on them. I have sold out the same theaters that The Allman Brothers have and it was mostly due to Opie and Anthony. My hats are off to those guys.
All of my old fans meet my new fans. I look forward to seeing you all commingling at my next shows. The house wives and the animals.

Why can’t we be both housewives AND animals? Fell in love with you on O&A and R&F years ago…Never miss an episode of Gary, and I’d tune into “Wachel Way” or Martha’s show just to see you. Fantastic meeting you yesterday. It’s all a blur of balloons, crumpled paper hitting my head, flabby arms, brilliance and hotness. Congrats on your newfound audience. Watching daytime Jay will only make the rest of us feel like we’re in on your secret. Yum-o!
Jay,
So random, I was just telling my fiance about you. We both survived the River Bank West back in the late ’90s, late nights on the fringe of mid-town west. Anyway, you and I would run into each other late night by the courtyard/lobby and BS about baseball and comedy clubs with Drafton. Hazy days/nights bro, glad to see that you are doing well. BTW, why didn’t security ever tell you to move that damn cadillac from the driveway???
